This is one of only two recorded copies of this cover.

Dorothy Knapp hand painted cachet prices

Dorothy Knapp covers are currently the most highly prized of all hand painted US FDCs.

Her Scout covers, in turn, are valued some 5 times higher than her other FDCs and

are in a class by themselves.  Listed prices for these 16 covers (four 48FDs in the 1940s

decade, eleven 50FDs in the 1950s decade, & 60FD-160) are intended to be the actual

current market values.

Dutch Country Auctions #284, 01/18/2013, Included the Walter Creitz collection of US Scout covers,

arguably the finest & largest such collection ever to come to market. It included 8 of the 16 Knapp

types, or 12% of the [my] estimate 75±5 covers produced. Auction estimates indicated the market

had softened & indeed it had, with 7 of 8 realizations falling within the estimate range. The McCusker

Auction #329, 01/25/2013, offered two additional types with realizations fitting the same pattern.

For most the values are about half of what they were; which still leaves them as the most valuable

Knapps and the most valuable US Scout covers. Note that all values have been updated in the Catalog.
