National Headquarters Type V Corner with Autographs   FDC Boy Scout Stamp

06/30/50

Valley Forge, PA

Printed

Blue on blue #10 envelope

National Council, BSA

The autographs are identified as follows:

50FD-0-autos

This remarkable cover was prepared by the addressee, August Howard.   Howard is listed in the

1942 Annual Report as being on the Public Relations Committee of the Division of Program.

Over not less than a 26 year period, using then current National Council stationery from the 1930s,

he obtained, in order, the West, Beard, Fisher & Fretwell autographs across the bottom of the cover.

Beard wrote a very short message: "Here 'tis" above his name. In 1941, Beard passed away and in

1948, West.  Howard, who was both patient and prescient, got his stamp issued in 1950 and prepared

his FDC which he had so carefully left a space for. The Schuck & Houghton autographs were obtained

about that time and finally, in 1960-1967 the Brunton & Barber autographs were added.

Thus, a unique FDC with autographs of the first eight leading professionals in Scouting.

a class by themselves. Listed prices for these 9 covers are intended to be the actual current

market values. Also see 48FD-45A variation & 48FD-45B.1 in the 1940s decade.
